BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 12 and 14 II

Late Georgian. Ashlar, with quoins, 2 storeys. Panelled door and plain fanlight to No 12, late C19 shop front

to No 14, and 3 sash window on upper floor.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 16 and 18 II

Brick, partly stuccoed, pantiled roof, late Georgian. 2 storeys, Stone doorcase. 5 segmental headed windows

to upper floor with keystones and rusticated brick surrounds. C19 shop front to No 16.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 24 II

Included in previous provisional list as Nos 20 and 22. C18, brick, 2 storeys, pantiled roof, 3 12-paned sash

windows above modern shop front. Small skylight in roof.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 26 II

Ashlar, with old slate roof and a gabled dormer. Cl8 building with good late Victorian shop front across

whole ground floor, with continuous frieze and dentilled cornice and 2 modern doors in centre. 2 sash

windows on upper floor. (Omit rear wing, containing Nos 20A, 22A, 22B)

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 30 II

C18. 2 storeys, stuccoed, with pantiled roof. Shop window on ground floor and 4 renewed sashes on upper

floor.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 32 to 36 (even) II

No 32 is merely the rear wing. Nos 34 and 36 stuccoed front, 2 storeys, rusticated quoins, pantiles and 2

dormers, 3 sash windows in upper floor in moulded frames.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 40 to 46 (even) II

Late Georgian. Stuccoed, 2 storeys. Nos 40 and 42 are slated. Nos 44 and 46 have a pantiled roof and

dentilled cornice. Upper floor has 1, 3, 3, 1 windows (4 12-paned sashes, 4 renewed).

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 48 to 52 (even) II

C17 and C18. Front is 3 storeyed, stuccoed, with pantiled roof. No 48 has a shop front. Between Nos 48 and

52 is the narrow entry to No 50. Each upper floor has 6 12 paned sash windows in moulded openings.

No 50 occupies rear wing and is earlier, timber-framed, 2 storeys, the upper storey projecting on joist ends,

but with later windows.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 54 to 60 (even) II

Circa 1800, ashlar with moulded cornice, rusticated pilasters at ends, and 2 very long tapering Doric

pilasters forming centre feature of 3 storeys. No 56 has a flush panelled door and traceried fanlight, No 58

has a long panelled door with large hinges, leading to rear wing which is house No 58. Upper floors have 5,

1, 5 windows, all 12-paned. No 60 forms corner to Eastern Lane.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 62 II

C18. 3 storeys. Stuccoed with pantiled roof. C19 shop front, and 2 12-paned sash windows on each upper

storey, with a moulded blank roundel between first floor windows.

 

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 64 II

With No 66 Bridge Street; No 57 West Street (qv) forms return side. 3 storeys, stuccoed with rusticated

quoins. Good Victorian shop front with slender fluted columns and decorated pediments over 2 doors (shop

where the original "Berwick cockles" are sold), 6 12-paned sash windows on first floor, and 6 later sashes

on top floor.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) No 66 II

With No 64 Bridge Street and No 57 West Street (gv). 3 storeys, stuccoed with rusticated quoins. Good

Victorian shop front with slender fluted columns and decorated pediments over 2 doors (shop where original

"Berwick cockles" are sold). 6 12-panted sash windows on first floor, and 6 later sashes on top floor.

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Nos 1 to 5 (odd) II

Early Cl9. Ashlar, with moulded cornice and slate roof, and quoins. 2 storeys. 7 sash windows on first floor,

and lower ones set in pilasters.

Late C18. Ashlar, rusticated quoins, moulded cornice, scroll foot stones to gables. 3 storeys, with 3 windows

Early C18. Ashlar with rusticated quoins, 3 storeys, later shop front, 2 sash windows on upper storeys.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Nos 27 to 33 (odd) II

Late C18. Stuccoed, 2 storeys, with 19th century shop fronts and 6 sash windows above.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Old Hen and Chickens II

Early C20, with "art nouveau" influence. Ashlar with rusticated quoins, 2 storeys, with heavy cornice on

consoles and a broken curved pediment. Dormer on roof. Heavy round hood over centre doorway, flanked

by ogee arched "Venetian" windows. Upper storey has 3, 1, 3 windows.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Sally Port II

A narrow old tunnel passage between Bridge Street and Quayside.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Nos 41 & 43 II

Late Georgian, 2 storeys, stuccoed, gentile roof with a crow-stepped gable to No 41. 19th century shop

fronts. 6 later sash windows above.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (south Side) Nos 45 to 53 (odd) II

C18. 2 storeys, Stone with moulded jambs to windows, pantiled roof. Nos 47 and 49 have later shop fronts,

No 51 has good doorcase with fluted pilasters, broken pediment and traceried fanlight, No 53 has a moulded

doorway similar to windows. Upper storey has 8 window.

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Nos 55 & 57 II

C18, 2 storeys, slate roof with scroll foot stones. Modern shop windows, with 6 12-parted sash windows

above. Coved cornice.

 

 

BRIDGE STREET (South Side) Nos 59 & 61 (formerly listed as No 1 Bridge End) II

Forms a rounded comer to Bridge End. 2 storeys. Early C19. No 61 has a Victorian shop front with a

dentilled cornice, No 59 has a similar doorway. 6 12-ported sash windows on each floor, with a stone band

below 1st floor windows.

 

 

1. BRIDGE END Nos 3 and 7 plus No 1 Quay Walls and railings. II

Houses. 1869. Gothic Revival style. Ashlar with ashlar dressings and Cumberland slate roof with crow

stepped gables. A single ridge and 2 gable stacks. Contrasting sand stone cill and impost bands, plus

chamfered plinths. 2 storey plus basement. Bridge End front 3 bays with to the right a moulded and pointed

arch doorway with moulded hood, door and overlight with small oculus. To the left 2 shouldered arched

plain sashes with small oculi, within chamfered pointed arches. Above 3 segment headed plain sashes

topped on crow stepped gables. Single bay chamfered corner front topped with crow stepped gable, with a

plain sash with oculus above within a chamfered, pointed arch. Above a projecting balcony with strapwork

balustrade and a shouldered arched plain sash with a strapwork pediment inscribed 1869. The Quay Walls

front, 3 bay with central projecting, gabled porch with moulded and pointed arched doorway, with door

overlight and oculus within. Either side are single shouldered arch plain sashes with oculi, within chamfered

painted arches above 3 central lancets with single plain sashes, flanked by single segment headed plain

sashes with crow stepped gables. spear head railings to Bridge End front.

 

BRIDGE STREET (North Side) Nos 2 to 6 (even) II

Single block of houses with some later shop fronts. Dated 1804 on lead rainwater head. 3 storeys, with

cornice, and rusticated ground floor. All upper windows are 12-paned sashes. Nos 8, 10 and 12 have 4 first

floor windows with iron railings, pediment over centre door and blank upper windows above door.
