There was a good turnout for the Main Guard Party on a lovely evening on 31st May when members were able to meet up for a chat and to view the 1580 Elizabethan Map exhibition which is continuing for a second year in view of its popularity. The Mayor and Mayoress attended along with other Town Council and business officials.
We learned that elements of the Tweed 1000 tapestry will be worked on by volunteers at the Main Guard over the summer months so that visitors can watch the work and learn more about the project. When complete, it will be about 2.2 metres high and 3.3 metres long and will illustrate our history as it unfolded over those 1000 years. It will be made of about 24 individual pieces created by community groups and individuals, illustrating the people and buildings of Berwick.
