Berwick Civic Society was delighted to be approached by The Historic Towns Trust to work in collaboration on an historic map of Berwick upon Tweed. The Historic Towns Trust has the vision for every town and city in Great Britain to have an authoritative atlas of maps and text that enables greater appreciation of the nation’s urban history and historic townscapes. To date, the Trust has recently released an atlas for Oxford and maps for Canterbury, Coventry, Oxford and Alnwick & Alnmouth. A map is planned for Beverley in early 2022. We are hoping that if we are successful that the map will also be used in the local schools, as Alnwick Civic Society has been able to achieve this in their local schools.
The presentation will be given after the Annual General Meeting, by Julian Munby FSA, Former Head of Buildings Archaeology at Oxford Archaeology and a Trustee of The Historic Towns Trust – on the work of The Historic Towns Trust.
Also in attendance will be John Moore, a specialist on Scottish cartography and formerly Collections Manager at Glasgow University Library and also a Trustee of The Historic Towns Trust.
